Tigua & Travels

In 2021, Tara spent some months living with Ecuadorian painter Manuel Ilaquiche and his indigenous family in Pujilí. He is a Tigua artist, the Andean naive painting style of South America. Tara had seen some of his works in 2018 and had always remembered their joyful colours and child-like simplicity.

Dedicated to develop her painting skills, Tara
returned to Ecuador and met Manuel to study this style. Creating these paintings during this self-organised "art-residency" offered a way to integrate some of Tara's travels. Returning to her home of the time in Costa Rica, Tara created a mural together with Liam in 2020, symbolising a next chapter by creatively reflecting on their shared travel experiences.

In 2023 Tara returned to Ecuador to assist at Durga's Tiger School and visit her Ecuadorian family in mountain town Pujilí. Manuel has a garden and art studio and enjoys the opportunity to transmit his passion about the Ecuadorian lands and arts. Inspired to share and educate, Tara organised a tour for students of the yoga school, facilitating an interesting cultural exchange and creative encounter.
