Portal of Life

Tara’s oeuvre spans over 200 works, many of them paintings. Although her favourite medium is menstrual blood, she has also created more than 70 paintings in other media, such as acrylic, oil and watercolour. Across these works she explores recurring themes of identity, belonging, the body and our connection to the universe – the cosmic womb.
 

Portal of Life (2024) is one such work: a painted metal door in Tara’s garden, celebrating the source of life. Its vivid colours, bold contrasts and a sense of childlike playfulness echo elements found in Tigua art, reflecting Tara’s "art residency" time living with an Indigenous artist family in Ecuador.
